Match Report 9th March
The soccer season kicked off again on the 9th of March. The soccer team played their first match of this season away against St Josephs of Coolock.
It was a lovely warm spring day to play the match and the team had a great turnout of players with about 16 travelling. The match started well but the other team had some very strong players and we played on a full size pitch. The team played well even though it was our first match but we look forward to training again on Monday to help us improve for our next match.
Our next match is in two weeks and we are looking forward to going for a win.
There was a lovely surprise when we looked over at our coach Ms. Shaughnessy and saw Ms. Scanlon. There was some lovely treat from Ms Scanlon and our coach of Ice pops though they would have tasted better with a win.

We love playing soccer in Virgin Mary G.N.S.!
Every Monday after school there is soccer training from 2.20-3.30 p.m. in the school hall coached by our teachers Ms. O'Dea, Ms. Doherty and Ms. Shaughnessy. On Thursdays our school soccer team made up of girls from third to sixth class train from 2.30 - 3.30 p.m. outside in the school yard (weather permitting!) or inside in the school hall. We are lucky to have so many talented soccer players who most importantly LOVE playing and being active! The school team is coached by our teachers Ms. Shaughnessy, Mr. O'Donovan and Mr. Mc Guinness. The school team will take part in a 5 a side blitz in Blanchardstown on Thursday 10th March and league matches will begin the end of February or the start of March. Keep up the great work at training girls! Best of luck in all of your matches!
A special mention to Abbey R in third class who has being playing club soccer since she was four! She is currently playing for Ballymun United but like all star players she is wanted by many other clubs! On Saturday 13th February she scored a whopping 8 goals in one match! Her coach had to take her off for a while to give the other team a chance! Remember us in Virgin Mary G.N.S. when you are a Man United star! Keep the goals coming for our school team! Go Abbey!!!

Introducing, Captain Sophie D.
Hi. My name is Sophie D and I am the captain of the Virgin Mary soccer team this year. I have played with the team for 2 years. I was very surprised when Ms Shaughnessy picked me to be the captain for 2016. I feel honoured. My job is to instruct my team-mates and motivate them. I feel we will win a lot of our games this season. We can't win all of our matches but the important thing is that we always try our best.
5 a side blitz 2016
Eight girls represented our school at the annual FAI 5 a side blitz in March. We got off to a flying start with Robyn T scoring in the very first minute! Our youngest star, Abbey R in third class continued her scoring streak scoring in every match. We were all delighted to see our special visitor, Ms. Aylward and thank you for the delicious crisps! We didn't mind waiting for our bus to arrive as we were busy munching our crisps! A very enjoyable day was had by all!
