Virgin Mary's Got Talent
On Friday 23rd June 2017, we had our first Virgin Mary's Got Talent! It was a fantastic show and we enjoyed performing as well as watching all the wonderful talent in our school! The girls worked very hard practicing their talents over the last few weeks and were amazing on the day. We even had a champion in our class winning 2nd place!! Check out the videos below of the 1st class performers!
School Tour
This year, 1st and 2nd class went to Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park on their school tour. The sun was shining brightly for the day and the girls had a ball! From playing in the playground to making fairy wishes, feeding the animals and going on a train ride, the girls enjoyed every minute! Have a look at our fantastic day out below!
Active School Week 2017
We had a great week of fun during this years Active School Week. We got to try out yoga, take part in the whole school soccer blitz and have 'Wake Up, Shake Up' every morning to our favourite tunes! We especially loved performing the Macarena and Whip Nae Nae on the yard! Have a look at the photos below to see how much fun we had! :)
Farm Fun
On Friday, Farmer Ashley came to our school with some of his fluffy friends. We had a great time playing with the bunny rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks, ducks, lambs and the cute little kitten. Everyone was very gentle with the animals and we wished we could have kept a few as class pets! Check out the photos to see how much fun we had. :)

Hip-hop dancing with Natalie and Claire
The girls had great fun taking part in four weeks of hip-hop dancing. They all worked hard to learn the dance moves and had a great time practicing on yard! Check out the videos and photos below to see the girls in action!!
Baking Fun!
Christmas in First Class
We had great fun here in the Virgin Mary Girls' School in the lead up to Christmas. Here in First class we were working extra hard every day as Santa had sent one of his elves to keep an eye on us. We were delighted when Santa came to visit us and we couldn't believe that we each got a wonderful present!
Our Trip to the Garda Station
Before Halloween first and second class got a chance to visit the local Ballymun Garda station. The girls had a great morning playing in the patrol cars, meeting the beautiful Garda horses and looking in the cells. We wrote a recount of our trip.
First we walked to the Garda station with second class. When we got there we rang the bell. Then we got to go in the Garda car and van. We got to turn on the sirens and make noise. After that we saw the Garda horses. They were big, brown and fluffy. Last we went into the cells. They were smelly and tiny. It was great fun!

Halloween Fun
We had our first Halloween disco in the Virgin Mary Girls' school and we loved it! Look at how fabulous we look in our costumes!
Maths Week 2016
We were very busy last week celebrating Maths Week. Each morning we got to play different maths games in pairs or groups. Mr. O'Donovan also dropped in a problem of the day each morning that we had to work hard on to figure out. We also put on our maths eyes and went on a shape hunt around the school. Can you see the 2D shapes we found? We then made shape monsters in art using lots of 2D shapes. We loved playing lots of maths games on the interactive whiteboard and we even got to go to the computer room to play maths games too. We certainly have some budding mathematicians in our class!
Procedural Writing in First Class
We have been learning all about procedural writing and writing instructions. Procedural texts give us a step by step guide on how to do or make something.
In September, we were busy writing the procedure for how to brush your teeth. Firstly, we discussed the importance of brushing our teeth and we each talked about when and how we do it. We then practiced brushing our teeth and recorded each step on the board using our bossy verbs. After that we got to write our own set of instructions on "How to brush your teeth" which you can see on our schools literacy board. We also wrote some simple instructions on "How to make toast" using pictures in sequence.
Our next lesson involved us working in groups to put a "Fairy Bread" recipe in order. We love fairies in our class and we were so excited to learn how to make fairy bread. We couldn't believe it when we got to make our very own fairy bread- it was delicious! Check out the pictures below to see how much fun we've been having!

We love drama :)
Each week we read a story together as a class. We love doing drama activities and creating still images based on the stories! Check out our super efforts based on the story Cinderella.
Autumn Time
On Thursday, we went on an autumn nature walk around Coultry Park. We had great fun looking out for the signs of autumn. We discovered lots of autumn leaves lying on the ground- they had turned red, yellow, orange and brown! We were also busy looking for hedgehogs and squirrels but we had no luck finding any! We gathered some autumn leaves and examined their colours. When we got back to the classroom we were busy painting our very own autumn trees.
