Science Week Trip 11th of November 2015
Today we went on a trip to DIT. We visited DIT for science week. The talk was about “The Science of Dragons” by scientific Sue(Sue McGrath).
The experiments were very interesting in a scientific way. Sue showed us using science that Dragons could exist. The talk was about gas, gravity, acids, smoke, fire, explosions and oxygen. Two girls from our class got to participate in experiments on stage. Chloe Kelly helped ignite some gas on the stage and Sarah Awoke created heavy smoke bubbles using CO2. We learned about acids that are in your stomach which help you dissolve food.
This science trip was really fun because we discovered about science. We saw exploding balloons and smoke guns in action. We saw a special type of stone that went on fire.

My Confirmation Day
There was a lot of things to do in my confirmation, buy my clothes, do my hair, learn my song... But none of those things made me nervous, what made me nervous was talking to the Archbishop. When I woke up that morning, I raised my blind up, hoping that it would be sunny and it was. I knew today was a big day for me. At 10 o'clock, I got changed into my clothes and then five minutes later my sponsor did my hair. I was a bit sad because my dad didn't make it but he knew he did the best he could. When my mum came, my sponsor drove me to school so I could get my alb. When I wore it, I realized what time it was and it was almost time to get in the church so I called my mum to come. Finally, I wasn't worried anymore so the service started. It was not long until my conformation job. I had to sing with Chloe Carey, Erin and Hannah. We all walked behind Carla and as soon as she was finished her reading, we started singing with the choir. The song was called "Send forth your spirit oh Lord". When we were done, we sat back in our seats and we continued the ceremony. I was glad that I sang, the only thing left was to talk to the Archbishop. I was really nervous but when I got there, I couldn't believe that words came out of my mouth! I thought I did well. After the ceremony, we were finally confirmed, I was so happy. I took so many pictures with my friends and family. Then we drove home. I took pictures so I could print them and then put them in frames to put them anywhere in my house. We had to collect my auntie from the hospital because she did a baby scan and after that, we went to Chinese. I had a great confirmation day!

Cyber Bullying
Facebook is a fun social media for young teenagers to chat with their friends but there is a lot of people under age on it as well, putting fake ages on it. There is a good side of social media but I’m here to tell you the bad side .There are hundreds of people committing suicide over depression, cancer and drugs but 90% of the time it is because they are being cyber bullied. There are people pretending to be people they are not. There are people out there putting fake profile pictures and names pretending to be a girl when it’s actually a boy or a girl pretending to be a boy. What if you sent an embarrassing photo to your friend and then you have an argument and next you see your picture on the whole lot of facebook or even worse..the internet? Young people think they can handle it if they get bullied but they can’t. We don’t want to see on the news people committing suicide. Imagine how their families feel but more importantly how would you feel?
Sorry if you went through this or know someone who has. This true story goes for adults too.
PLEASE DON'T RISK YOUR LIFE!

Paper Mache Pumpkins!
Sixth Class were very busy making paper mache pumpkins.
1.They stuck on strips of newspaper onto a balloon with a paste(PVA glue mixed with water)
2. They covered three layers and then let them dry for a few days.
3. They covered two more layers and again let them dry for a few days.
4. Next they were busy painting their balloons orange to make sure that you could not see any newspaper.
5. They drew on the faces with black markers and TA DA look below to see all their wonderful pumpkins!

Ready Steady Sport
On Tuesday the 14th of October 2014, We filmed Ready steady sport the fun, amazing show. Ready Steady Sport is for Elev 8 on RTE 2. Schools compete for the teacher to have to dress up or dance. Our teacher dressed up as a lolly pop lady and had to dance gangnam style. The class were sighing at the embarrassment of it all and we were also in stitches. The man who filmed us was named Paul. He was british,Bubbly and brainy when it came to recording. 5 years ago he moved to Ireland from London but since then her lives and works here. First of all Megan introduced us then we sang are school anthem "Virgin Mary GNS, we’re the greatest we’re the best. We’re the ones with the golden crest!" At the end he put the camera just at my face. After that we did the activity. Our activity was an activity where you had to jump over a bench. Casey got a whopping 32 jumps! The whole class was gobsmacked and very proud because we are destined to win! Even if we don’t win our teacher had to record her forfeit. Chloe Trappe and Niamh had to introduce the forfeit. I then said my part it was scary because I kept making mistakes once the camera recorded me. After we were finished recording we all asked Paul some questions about angles and who he has worked with. I didn’t know that things are usally recorded by one camera man and he just takes it in different angles each take. Then we asked him who he’d worked with and he said he was working with Una out of The Saturdays and has worked with other famous people. It was a long and tiring day but I enjoyed it because it was very fun.

Paper Helicopters
1. What I did........ today I made paper helicopters one big one and one small one I had to cut, fold and throw them up in the air until they spinned around. It took me ages to make them spin we had to see if the big one or the small one would fall down first .
2. What happened....... I threw them up into the air and the smaller one came down first and the bigger one came down last then I had to stand up on a chair and the smaller one still came down first
3. What I learned....... I learned that the shape of the helicopters blades make it spin!!!!!
4. Gravity pulls the helicopters down.
5. The air resists the movement and pushes up the helicopters causing the helicopters to spin.

Narrative Writing
Alternative Ending:
_The guest arrived and because he was embarassed about being late he rapped very genteely at the door_
When Grethel heard this she ran to the door calling Mr.Charles as she did so. The embarassed guest slowly said his hellos and waved to the driver and said "Pick me up in two hours from now". The man replied with a sigh " Of course , Sir." In came the guest , when he was inside and smelled the half eaten pheasant he was less embarrassed very much if I'm honest. Grethel was trembling in the kicthen , before long Mr.Charles came in and was wondering why the pheasant was not there, when Grethel saw him she panicked and said Bridie (Mr.Charles' maid) had eaten all the feast from that night that was for the very important guest that was sitting in the Dining room waiting for his food. Bridie was upstairs cleaning the room nobody saw, knew of nothing! She was the only person who had a key to this secret room that not even Mr.Charles knew about . This key was not like any other. It was a golden key with custom made shapes and it looked very odd. Mr.Charles went upstairs to find nobody with such elegance or kindness as Bridie not her beautiful blond golden hair. While downstairs the starving guest awaited quietly in the Dining Room humming to the song he was playing in the long carriage ride he had to go through to get here.
Startled Grethel ordered a pizza from FireHouse up the road .While searching for Bridie he finds a dark dull door. He knocked at the dull dark door to find Bridie eating the rest of the pheasant that Grethel had given her before the guest had come and had told her it was her dinner for today. She was immediately forced to leave the kingdom and never to return . Grethel felt really bad but she was relieved that she didn't have to leave.

Cultural Trip
On the first of October at nine o'clock my class and fifth class went on a trip.We got on the number four bus that brings you into town. Firstly, we went to the library in Trinity College and the Book of Kells. The book of Kells was really cool. We looked at the book of Kells and later we went into the library. We saw lots of books and more books on display. Later on we went to Number Twenty Nine Georgian House. We first watched a video about the house. The video was scary at first but after a while it was not. When the video was over the man split us into three groups. There were two groups of eleven and one group of twelve. There were thirty four of us altogether. There were five floors, we started at the basement up to the attic. The man called Niall showed us the bells that they rang if the people in the house needed the servants. Secondly we saw the room where the water was stored. Then we saw the kitchen and the pantry room. In the kitchen there was this thing like a toaster but it was not. It was used to make bread and the sun needed to reflect on it to make it warm. We saw lots of other rooms but my favourite was the children’s room and the room where the teacher taught the children. There were two doll houses in the children’s room. I liked them. After this we went to the park to have our lunch. We had to have our lunch really quickly. We only had ten minutes. Lastly we went to The National Art Gallery. We got a girl called Julie to show us the place. We saw lots of paintings. We saw one of Charles and he looked really strange and stuck up. We all had a great day.

Letters of Persuasion
Dear Ms.Mahon,
Did you know that The All-Ireland Ladies Final is on this Sunday at 4:00pm?
We are kindly wondering if you would let us have a "Blue Friday" because every year we dress up for the boys, why can’t we do it for the women?
My teacher asked us who is playing on Sunday and only one girl out of sixteen girls got it right!
If people bring in two euro on Friday we could use money to buy more sport’s equipment.
We have been using the same equipment for years and years! We will kindly persuade people for you.
A very smart person like you would happily let us wear blue on Friday. You will be the best person in the world if you agree!
We are kindly asking if you would let us know before tomorrow.
So what do you say to our "Blue Friday"?

Dear Ms. Mahon
Did you know the ladies football final is on this Sunday?
Everyone knew that Donegal and Kerry men played last Sunday and only one girl knew that the Dublin ladies football team is playing this Sunday. We have a football team with just girls and would like if all students brought in any donations to spend on school sport’s supplies. How would you feel if you were the ladies football team…all the work they put in and no one knew about their match? Our school has been using the same sport’s equipment for the past few years or so .If you agree we will call it BLUE FRIDAY also the football team might have a better chance at winning their match with our support.
DONT FORGET IT’S ON THIS SUNDAY AT 4PM

Dear Ms. Mahon,
Did you know that all Ireland ladies football Senior Final is on this Sunday at 4:00pm?
We are wondering if you would please let us have a Blue-Friday we do it every single year for the men so why can`t we do it for the women? My teacher asked us who are playing this Sunday and only one girl out of sixteen girls got it right and I think everyone should know that Dublin Vs Cork is on so we can cheer for the Dublin ladies.
Thank you,

Blue Friday
Dear Ms. Mahon ,
Did you know Ladies Senior GAA are in an All-Ireland Football Final this weekend? Well now you know ! Everybody knew about the Men’s Football Final between Kerry and Donegal last week. But nobody knows about the women’s. We’re from Dublin and we didn't even know about this! So we think we should support them by having a ' Blue Friday' and wear in our own blue clothes. Last year we supported the men by wearing in our Dublin jersey. So we believe we should do the same for the girls as we are an all-girls school. We also have a girl’s football team and if we were to have a 'Blue Friday' we could raise some money for new equipment as we have been using the same training stuff for every session. This could make us even better! Most people think men’s football is better but we believe otherwise. To show our support we should make a video and email them to show them Virgin Mary G.N.S are supporting them all the way! If we were to have a ' Blue Friday' we could make posters that we could use in the video being sent to them on their big day. Ladies train just as much as the men do so why haven't we done this before? We should really take part in this as my teacher (Ms. Shaughessy) got an e-mail explaining the opportunity to take part in this Blue Friday. My class agreed that we could use flags, face paint and more in our video. UP THE DUBS!

BLUE FRIDAY
On the 28th of September, the girls Dublin Ladies Football team are playing Cork and on the 26th of September we are hoping to have a non- uniform day. We would only wear blue on this day. We will all donate €3 or €2 and we could use the money for the school’s football team, arts and crafts etc.
A smart woman like you should know that ladies football is just as important as men’s football.
Last week our teacher asked us who is playing in the men’s football final and everyone knew who was playing and we are not even from Donegal or Kerry!
This morning our teacher asked us who is playing in the Ladies Football Final and nobody knew except for one girl who guessed! We are girls and we are from Dublin. Imagine if you were a part of the ladies football team and no one even knew that you exist? How would you feel?
We want to support the brilliant girls football team and we hope you do to!

Diary accounts for The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Dear Diary,
When I came home from school one day Maria was packing my bags. So I asked my Mother why? She told me that we were moving. I didn’t really want to move because that meant I had to leave Carl, Daniel ad Martin behind. It was really sad for me as they were my three best friends for life. Then we had to leave our house and get a train to our new house. Our new house is called Out-with. Anyways at least I made a new fried called Shmuel. He has to wear grey and white striped pyjamas. No offence to him but in my opinion he was very dirty almost as if he never got washed. My new friend Shmuel is from Poland. Both of us are like twins, we were both forced to move to Out-with and we were both born on the same day. Nearly every day is boring when I don’t get to see Shmuel. Like today I hate it why does it have to rain! I wonder if Shmuel is thinking about me now...
Bruno
by Casey Ashmore
Dear Diary,
Today was a TOTAL disaster! I got hit by a dumb soldier,I hate them. Happily I got to see Bruno, he is so nice.I don't know where Grandfather is, he has being missing for several days now. Bruno told me he had 3 best friends,Karl,Daniel and I think Martin but he said I'm his best friend now. There is something very strange I heard one of the soldiers say to my Grandfather the day he went missing. They said "You can come and have a shower," but I did not think this place had showers and if it does have showers I have never had one. Today Bruno brought me more bread and cheese and a little bit of chocolate cake. I actually think I would never be able to have a better friend than Bruno. Bruno wants to be over my side of the fence but it’s terrible over this side of the fence. Sadly, I never get food and if I do it disgusting and expired things. Bruno is right -stripes are disgusting and if we ever move I’m never wearing stripes again! I can't believe we ever moved here! I would say Bruno has the best life. He used to have 3 best friends. I really hate it here. Anyway that’s all for today.
Shmuel

Dear Diary,
When I came home from school one day Maria was packing my bags. A Diary Account About Bruno
I have met a new friend called Shmuel. Shmuel is from Poland. The same thing happened to him we both had to move from our lovely homes to Out-With. I hate it here it's so boring! Shmuel lives on the other side of the fence. Every day I go to see my new friend Shmuel. I haven’t told anyone about my new friend it's my secret. “Did you bring any food with you today?”asked Shmuel the other day. “Oh,no I forgot I'll make sure I bring some bread and cheese tomorrow” I replied. When I got home my sister Gretel was playing with her dolls as usual. She's a hopeless case! In history class with Herr Lizt today it was raining .When I got home I went into the kitchen to get some food to bring to Shmuel. “Oh,I didn't see you there Maria. Are you eating again?you can’t be still hungry.”she said. I said I was and I got bread and cheese for Shmuel. When I went to Shmuel he was sitting cross-legged as always. “I wish I could go under the fence to your side” I said. “You shouldn’t it’s a bad place on this side”he replied. Well that’s all for today I’ll be back to you diary tomorrow.
