We've been learning the days of the week!!
Teddy Bears' Picnic
In May, Junior Infants were busy planning a Teddy Bears' Picnic. We planned what we would need and then made invitations to give to Senior Infants. We all had a great afternoon in the sun with our teddies!
Fun with Magnets
Junior Infants had great fun experimenting with magnets. The class tested different materials around the classroom to see if they were magnetic. Look at the pictures to see how much fun we had!
Easter Baskets
Junior Infants were busy making Easter baskets out of clay! First we squeezed, rolled and pressed the clay to get the air out. Then we made a pinch pot. We left the pinch pots on the shelf to dry for a few days. Once they were dry, we chose what colours we would like our Easter baskets to be. We had so much fun painting them and we were lucky enough to have Ms. Shaughnessy come to our class to help us!!! When the paint was dry we put some crepe paper into our baskets and then filled them with chocolate eggs, Easter marshmallows and fluffy chicks. Our baskets were ready and we were so excited to take them home!!! :)
Seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Fhéile Pádraig
We had a fantastic time here in Junior Infants during Seachtain na Gaeilge and in the lead up to St. Patrick's Day. We tried our best to use lots of Irish in the classroom and we learned lots of Irish songs and poems. Our favourite was "An Leipreachán". Check out the video below of us practicing for Performance Day! :)
Look how fabulous the girls looked in their green, white and orange outfits!!!
Spring has Sprung!!
Spring is finally here and Junior Infants have been learning all about this wonderful season! Each day during playtime the girls were working hard in "The Garden Centre". They were buying and selling gardening equipment, sorting seeds, making and arranging flowers and much, much more!
Junior Infants have been learning all about the signs of Spring. We decided to go on a nature walk around the school to see some of these signs. It was a beautiful, sunny Spring day and we noticed lots of buds, shoots and flowers growing. We saw birds building their nests high up in the trees and lovely blossoms growing on trees. The girls really loved the bright yellow daffodils and the pretty daisies. Look at our photos to see how much fun we had and don't forget to keep an eye out for the signs of Spring!! :)
In Science, the girls learned all about the conditions for plant growth- water, compost, warmth and sunlight. They each planted a sunflower seed and are waiting patiently for them to grow into big, beautiful flowers- some have already started!!! :)
Happy Valentine's Day from Junior Infants
Thank you to all who supported our Valentine's school fundraiser, the girls all looked fabulous in their pink and red outfits!!
Gaeilge sa Rang
Pancake Tuesday
We had a wonderful Pancake Tuesday in our class. Miss McDermott made delicious pancakes for all of the girls in our school and we ate them all up. They were yummy! Thank you Miss McDermott!!
January in Junior Infants
We had great fun in our class in January. We were lucky enough to have Ms. McDermott teaching us for 3 weeks and we did lots of fun and exciting things! Our theme for the month was "The Italian Restaurant" and we got to order, prepare, make and serve our very own pizza. We made 'pizza dough' using flour, salt and water and also designed our own pizza with our favourite toppings! We even had a pizza party! Check out the pictures to see how much we enjoyed being back in school in January!! :)
Owl Babies
We are Unique
We read a beautiful story about Elmer the Elephant to teach us all about being unique and special. Elmer was different to all of the other elephants because he was colourful. We thought about how special we all are and how great it is that we are all unique and different. Then we created our own unique Elmers in art.
Christmas Festivities
We had a fantastic time here in the Virgin Mary Girls' School in the lead up to Christmas. The girls were busy working in Santa's Workshop every morning wrapping presents, writing letters and sorting decorations. We also had great fun learning lots of Christmas songs and poems. Two very special visitors also arrived to our class in the lead up to Christmas- Elsa the Elf and Santa Clause himself!! Elsa the Elf was busy checking if we were good girls and reported back to Santa in the North Pole. Santa then came to our school and brought a wonderful present for each of our girls!! Have a look at the photos to see how much fun we had!!!
Mun-Fun-Run
We have been learning to read and write :)
Autumn Time
We went on an Autumn Nature Walk around our school and we had great fun looking out for the signs of autumn. We discovered lots of autumn leaves lying on the ground- they had turned red, yellow and brown!! We took some back to our classroom to look at and then coloured our own autumn leaves to make a beautiful autumn tree.

Maths Week 2015
We have been very busy this week celebrating Maths Week. We have been playing games and doing lots of different fun maths activities including matching activities, patterns, classifying, sorting and shapes puzzles. We also went on a shapes hunt. Can you see the 2D shapes we found around the school? We are busy making shape monsters too and we will share some photos with you soon!

Our Smiley Scarecrows
The Junior Infants created these masterpieces after they learned the rhyme "I'm a Little Scarecrow".
Playtime in Junior Infants
Playtime is a very important part of our school day. Everyday, each group takes part in a new activity. This month we have been busy learning all about "The Doctor's Surgery" through stories and play. We have been working hard treating patients in the surgery, building a hospital out of blocks, playing matching games, colouring pictures and creating wonderful things in junk art! Have a look at us at play, I think you will agree we have a lot of talent in our class!!
Our Journey to School
In September, we talked about how we get to school everyday. Some girls travel by bus, some take the car, some walk and some cycle their bikes. We each coloured a picture to show how we travel to school. Then we looked at our school using Google Maps and some of the girls were able to show us the route they take to school each day! We also drew maps of our journey.
