At Virgin Mary School we want to ensure a smooth transition from Primary to Secondary school. Change can be difficult but it doesn’t have to be. We hope that with the preparation for secondary school that is delivered in Virgin Mary, the girls and boys can confidently look forward to their new and exciting beginnings.
The HSCL, Mr. O’Donovan, is always readily available to help parents. The HSCL has links with other secondary schools and helps parents in many ways. The HSCL also checks in with the secondary schools to monitor the progress of some children and helps the secondary school as much as possible to accommodate all new pupils.
Parents should feel relaxed about contacting a secondary school. If you are not, then the HSCL or the principals of Virgin Mary Boys/Girls will be happy to talk with you. Hopefully this has reassured some parents about the transition to secondary school. The most important thing to realise, if there are any doubts however, is that the staff encourages you to approach us with your queries. We’re here to cater for your childs’ educational needs and can assure you that we will always do everything in our power to support each and every pupil in our care.

We would encourage you to have your child enrolled by the end of September at the latest to ensure they get the school they want and suits them best. There is a good chance there will be no Open days in the schools this year due to Covid restrictions so please check out schools online. The Home School will try to organise appropriate visits from schools to give the pupils more information.
