Rainbow Room 2022-2023🌈

It has been a busy week after our lovely break! This week, the Rainbow Room took part in Sports day and lots of other events like the 5 minute run, old school games, tug of war and lots more! Changes in routine can be very hard to navigate but the girls did very well with the help of our visuals and high tech AAC!

Visit to the Community Garden 🌷🌻🌼

On Wednesday 14th June, we visited the Glas community garden across from our school. Emer, led a beautiful day for us, where se searched the garden for flowers that matched the rainbow colours, we planted some green beans and we even got to water all of the vegetables and herbs growing there! The girls had a brilliant morning and they loved all the different sensory elements: the fairy corner, the bridge, the pond and all the lovely sights and smells! Thanks to Emer & the global action plan for having us! 🌳

Sensory Garden!

We are so lucky in the Rainbow room to have received new equipment for the girls! We love climbing, swinging and flying down the slide! The new equipment will allow the girls to develop their fine and gross motor skills which will help them in their day to day skills. Sensory input is so important and the girls are able to gain great proprioceptive input from our new equipment! We are so grateful and we’ve especially been enjoying it the last whole in the beautiful sunny weather! ☀️

Summer is coming!

With summer on its way, we have decided to take advantage of the warmer weather and enjoy more outdoor learning experiences. We have had football with Aimee our GPO and trips to Coultry Playground. The girls love to visit the playground and the swings are a big hit! Playground visits are fantastic for all children, all ages and all abilities. They allow for gross motor skills to be developed and practiced and independent problem solving skills.

Hear our Voice!

The axis invited us to an event especially for Autism specific special classes! It was a fantastic, sensory camping experience and the girls had a wonderful time!

Happy New Year!

This month we celebrated birthdays, learned some new camogie skills and practiced many life skills like walking to the shop, crossing the road and following simple recipes!

Super September!

A great start to the year for all the girls in the Rainbow Room! Liam our GPO has been helping us take part in fun PE activities like obstacle courses and parachute games. We are practicing fine and gross motor skills everyday inside and outside the classroom! We have even started our first Jolly Phonic sounds! So far, we have been learning about 's' and 'a'.
